Impulsive Charters, est. 1995,  is a family owned and operated business since.  Capt. Paul Thompson has always loved sports and the outdoors. His passion for salt water fishing started at a young age when his parents took Paul and his siblings on a vacation to the North Carolina coast... Bald Head Island.

After graduating from Baylor High School, Chattanooga, TN and college at University of Tampa and University Tennessee Chattanooga, Capt. Paul ventured to the mountains of western North Carolina in the early 70's.  A hippie with a dream...he had a calling to raise rainbow trout in a very secluded area of the Great Smoky Mountains.  When he arrived, there was no house nor electricity.  A school bus became his shelter and it wasn't an easy task getting it to his house seat at 3000 ft. next to a roaring creek.  (He'll gladly tell you many more stories.) Next job was building raceways, several ponds and a hatchery to raise the rainbow trout fingerlings. Eventually he built a log cabin from the timber he cleared.  Buffalo Mountain Trout Farm prospered for many years.  The original cabin has been refurbished, but many of the original elements can still be seen and admired.  The ponds remain stocked with rainbow trout and in the last few years Capt. Paul has started a small vineyard of Norton Cynthiana red grapes overlooking one of his ponds.

Finding his next fish related adventure was a natural transition due to Paul's parents.

Dr. Paul, Sr. and Frances Thompson loved their summer beach vacations. Bald Head Island was their choice vacation location for several years.  In 1985 they purchased a beachfront home on Bald Head Island. Fishing, crabbing and golf filled their days.  The Thompson family still enjoys the original, memorable summer vacation home, the "Thompson House" on South Bald Head Wynd.  Once Capt. Paul visited Bald Head Island, he knew he had to figure out a way to return there, permanently.  After marrying his wife, Jeanne in 1995, they purchased his beloved vessel Impulsive. He immediately began the next journey of his outdoor adventures.  Together Capt. Paul & Jeanne created Impulsive Charters, a private fishing charter, tours and commercial fishing business from their new home in Southport, North Carolina.
